Claude

Add the Search1API connector or install the Search1API plugin in Claude. Both use the same five web tools; the plugin adds an Agent Skill.

Search1API has two published integrations in Claude: a connector and a plugin. Both connect to the same hosted MCP server and provide the same five tools. The plugin also includes an Agent Skill that guides Claude in choosing tools, reading sources, and citing its findings.

Choose the connector to add the tools. Choose the plugin to add those tools and the skill together. The skill adds instructions for using the tools, rather than a separate search or research service. Plugins require a paid Claude plan.

Add Search1API connector

  1. Open Add Search1API connector.
  2. Add the connector to your Claude account.
  3. Sign in with your Search1API account and approve the OAuth connection.

Install Search1API plugin

  1. Open Install Search1API plugin. You can also go to Customize → Plugins → Discover in Claude and search for Search1API.
  2. Add the plugin to your Claude account.
  3. Open the plugin's Connectors tab, connect Search1API, and sign in with your Search1API account.

Plugins added to your Claude account sync to Claude Code v2.1.273 or later when signed in with the same Claude account. In Claude Code, use /mcp to check the Search1API connection and complete authorization if needed.

What Claude can do

Both integrations expose these tools:

ToolWhat it does
searchSearch the live web
newsFind news coverage
crawlRead a page's content
sitemapDiscover a site's links
trendingCheck GitHub or Hacker News trends

The plugin's skill guides Claude to read a shared URL directly, search before reading sources for a broader question, adjust result counts and recency, and answer with source links. See Agent Skills for details.

Verify the connection

Ask Claude: Search the web for the latest Next.js release notes and cite the sources. Check that Claude calls a Search1API tool and includes source links in its answer.

If the tools are unavailable or authorization expires, reconnect Search1API in the connector settings or the plugin's Connectors tab. In Claude Code, check /mcp.

Other setup options

You can also configure the hosted MCP server manually with OAuth or an API key, or install the standalone skill and CLI for a terminal agent. These are alternatives to the published Claude integrations above.

Billing

Both integrations use your Search1API account credits at the same API rates. The skill itself adds no separate Search1API fee; a workflow that makes more searches or reads more pages uses more credits. See Credits and limits.
